Mario VENIER

SCULPTOR

Biografy

Biographical Brief

Following a long gestation in Paris, Mario Venier was born again as a sculptor in Carrara some fifteen years ago.

Before then, avid for foreign travel and experiences, he lived many years away from his native Italy. Between the ages of 17 and 30, in the U.S.A., he became a college student, a lifeguard, a farmhand, a factory worker and subsequently, a college student again. A Phd in economics allowed him to find jobs in Kansas City, Missouri; Washington, D.C; and, finally, in Paris where he served as a high-level expert in aid flows to the suffering populations of the Third World.

Since 1995, Mario sculpts in Italy and in France. Owing to his past experiences in 'groupthink', he shuns trends and currents. Yet, somewhat unvoluntarily, his sculpting bears a contemporary imprint. He stresses that "contemporary work is nothing but a sort of present day value of period pieces seen from the future".

Rapidly Mario moved out of figurative work to the more demanding themes of communication, complementarity, and desire of eternity. At present, working with materials that defy the wear of time - stone and steel - he is working on sculptures that will shine the light of fame on the memories of great men of our times.

From the Salon d'Automne of 2002 held in Paris, to the 3rd Beijing Art Biennale of 2008, his work has been shown in major cities only.

Mario was born in Rome in 1939 as Fabio Ballarin, a man dedicated to philosophical fantasies, a writer fascinated by frankness and renewal.
